Reaction: The Little Mermaid (2023)

Last week, a teaser for the upcoming live-action remake of the animated Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” created headlines when reactions of little girls watching the teaser took the internet by storm.

Parents recorded their kids reacting to Ariel being played by a black actor, Halle Bailey, not believing their eyes when they “saw themselves” as the little mermaid. When your favorite Disney princess looks like you for the first time, the excitement is naturally through the roof.

These priceless clips have been circling around on social media and brought smiles around the world. Apart from being cute, these kids also highlight the main discussion: diverse representation in the media. Or should we say underrepresentation of diversity in movies and media? Sadly, there are a few internet trolls who have raised criticism against the decision of portraying Ariel as black instead of white.

This tweet says it all…

Here are a few more reactions from the internet:

Some people forgot this is a kids movie, and kids don’t care…
